Training

Marcus has developed a unique and engaging style of training that enables teachers to gain confidence, learn new skills and enhance teaching and learning techniques. Marcus has worked with a wide range of schools both in the UK and internationally in Europe, Africa and China. Each school can be assured of a training session that is tailored to their needs.

Marcus can be contacted through Dragonfly Training for in-school courses including ‘The Big Four: Sustainably Improving the Quality of Teaching and Learning’, ‘Improving Relationships in the Classroom: Effective use of Teaching Assistants’ and ‘Behaviour Management Masterclass’ and many others.

Marcus also works independently with Primary Schools to raise achievement through engaging STEM programmes. This includes staff training, consultancy and the occasional science show! A number of options are available:

  • weekly/fortnightly/monthly consultancy to improve the quality of science provision through strategic planning and implementation
  • twilight training sessions with resources provided for specific topics and themes
  • INSET days
  • Year group science shows

I just want to say how much of a pleasure it was to host Marcus here in Nanjing. I think it is often overlooked how important it is that training is enjoyable and that trainers need to be engaging. Marcus was excellent. Matthew Shephard, Headteacher, British School Nanjing, China. February 2018

Everyone had such a great week, staff and children. We now have children buzzing to be all kinds of Scientists. Marcus pitched the sessions perfectly for the children. What a treat they had! All fully engaged and enthusiastic for science! Charlotte Davies, Science Lead, Roselands Infants, March 2017

Tracy Robinson – Headteacher at Motcombe Infants, Eastbourne, UK

Science at our school had lost the excitement and impact that this area of the curriculum should have. Both Teachers and children seemed to have lost some of their enthusiasm and we were in need of support. Marcus worked with our Science Leader (new in post) and Deputy Headteacher to develop a programme of lessons and resources that completely transformed how science was taught in the school. Marcus, known to the children as ‘The Science Man’ introduced the children to a series of fun and exciting activities (the rockets were particularly impressive) that they really looked forward to being a part of. In addition Marcus worked with staff, delivering training and support, to ensure that they felt confident to teach more complex concepts and the feedback from staff was very positive. He also signposted staff to several online resources.  Marcus piloted a format for Enrichment Days using Science as the focus and we have continued to follow his approach to these days which have been extremely successful. I would recommend Marcus to any school in need of a science revamp as his knowledge, skills and passion for the subject really show in the way he approaches school support.

Richard Thomas, Headteacher, Pevensey and Westham CE School
